Saturday, July 29, 2017: Astros await refugee’s first pitch in a new country

Dayana Halawo was nine months pregnant when Syrian planes started bombing her neighborhood in 2012.

As the nation’s brutal civil war raged into its second year, government forces began carrying out a major military offensive in Homs, a key opposition stronghold at the time. The central Syrian city, home to thousands of civilians, including Halawo, her husband Mohamed and 1-year-old son, abruptly transformed into a war zone.

Saturday, July 8, 2017: Amaanah receives funding from NFL #GreaterThanTheGame.

We are excited to announce that Amaanah was the only refugee serving organization to take part at #GreaterThanTheGame! This special event is celebrating the charitable impact of Superbowl 51. We were apart of 78 nonprofit organizations across our community who were honored on that day. Thank you once again to the Houston Texans for your continuous support!
